A STORY BEHIND BARS
We were asked by Ogilvy Greece, to create an animated brand film that tells the story of Three Cents. A story behind bars. We start at the lively Dos Agaves bar in Athens, following the journey of four friends who turned their passion for soda into a beloved global brand.
With graphic novel-inspired visuals, vibrant colors, moody and strong storytelling, we bring their journey to life. By mixing cel animation and 3D elements, we capture what makes Three Cents special: natural ingredients, unique flavors, and a genuine commitment to quality.
THE BRIEF
The brief was to tell the story of Three Cents and how a simple idea that started in a bar turned into a successful brand. We wanted to take viewers on a journey through this engaging narrative, highlighting how Three Cents evolved from its early days into a favorite choice for soda lovers everywhere. The focus was on showcasing the founders’ passion and creativity while celebrating the brand’s commitment to quality and unique flavors.
THE CHALLENGE
The main challenge was to create an animated film without appearing cartoonish or too dark. We focused on achieving a vibrant aesthetic through a dynamic interplay of shadows, blacks, and bright colors. By strategically using deep contrasts and black tones, we aimed to add depth and sophistication to the visuals, ensuring the film appeals to an adult audience while maintaining an energetic and engaging atmosphere.
MAKING OF
From a technical standpoint, we faced the challenge of combining different animation techniques in a way that would make the film feel cohesive and visually striking. One of the key moments in the film, the “flavors” shot, required a combination of cel animation for the liquid and 3D for the ingredients. To make sure the liquid’s movement felt fluid and the depth remained consistent, we used a dummy spline in Cinema 4D to control the camera movement. This allowed us to achieve the right depth and dynamic motion, while keeping the animation seamless.
